Round 2 is on Friday

6 Apr 2020 by Reuben Salimu

Dear All,

Thank you for taking part in tonight’s games, some absolute crackers involving all sorts of different people coming together playing chess online from across the world, wonderful to see.

To get to the point, I have decided that the next round (2) will be on Friday, I will explain why:

- It gives you all the chance to play as many individually rated 10+2 games as possible so that your team will be in the most accurate board order it can be for the rest of the tournament

- There were a handful of games unable to be completed for various reasons this evening. I think getting 27/32 is brilliant all things considered, but the issue is is that the draw can’t be made until all results are in. So therefore by the time they are played it won’t leave enough time to contact your opponent to sort things out.

- We have also some top new prestigious teams desperate to join, and on a case by case basis may pair them up against each other in the mean time so they can ‘catch up’. If you are in that situation please contact me as soon as possible!

- It gives us time to continue to develop an absolutely awesome data system where we can effectively live stream all the matches and commentate on them, and it will be so much easier for everyone, watch this space.

- We are getting significant amount of welcome attention from various media outlets which I have to co-ordinate, it’s really exciting and I can’t say more so again watch this space.

- For those in the minority that had difficulties tonight I apologize about them, however these days can be used to work them out so please contact me about them and I will help :) Again the updated document is attached showing people how to set up online matches. Going forward it would be great if everyone could have that as second nature so please use this time to revise!

- Could anyone who is interested in streaming/chess commentating please let me know asap (you can’t play at the same time). We are going to have a potentially massive audience watching at some point!

- Its also important that each team sends me their Chess.com team handle via email so I can add it to the directory.

- It gives me time to take on feedback you have and potentially alter anything that is required :)

I hope that all makes sense and apologies for any inconvenience caused, however it will make the tournament run even smoother and help us develop. On Wednesday I will give the next round draw and have more exciting developments to share with you all :)

Best wishes with thanks in these extraordinary times.
